<i><span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Tuesday
(13/05/2014)</span></i><span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;"> – Read Luke 2:25<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">1- How is Simeon described in the text above? What
does it mean to be righteous? <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">2- The word “devout” is most of the time understood as
“being religious”, what is not wrong. But to be devout includes more than an
outside expression of faith. What does mean to you to be a devout person? <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">3- How do you understand the expression “and the Holy
Spirit was upon him”? Could it be that the Holy Spirit was like a dove hovering
over Simeon’s head? Or maybe Simeon’s was immersed on the Spirit who was
covering him up? (See note 3). Could it be that to be righteous and devout were
requisites for the Spirit to be upon him? What do you think? What if Simeon was
not a righteous and devout person? By the other side, can we be righteous and
devout by our own strength, without the action of the Holy Spirit on our lives?
<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">4- When comparing your life to Simeon’s, could you say
that you are a righteous and devout person? If not, what do you need to reach
out that position? Do you feel the Holy Spirit is upon your life in the sense
of using you, controlling you (this is the meaning of the Holy Spirit‘s action
over Simeon’s life in the above text)? <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">

<br />
1- Como Simeão é descrito nesta passagem? O que significa ser justo?<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Notas:<br />
<br />

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">1)- God being a Holy God established a series of rites
wishing to emphasize holiness and the need for people to come to Him in a
proper way, with no uncleanness, thus becoming a holy people. The uncleanness
mentioned in the text was not caused by a moral fault, but by “ritual”
uncleanness which turned a person unable to be part of the service. This
uncleanness could be caused by different reasons, such as sexual relation,
child delivery, diseases, etc (see Lev. 15). <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">2)- Everything that was consecrated to the Lord
belonged to the Lord and could not be used but for God’s service. All the
firstborn male were to be consecrated to the Lord, but God gave a way for them
to be redeemed. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">3)- The burnt offering was offered to God as an act of
worship. The offer was totally burnt upon the altar. Most of the other
sacrifices were preceded by the burnt offering. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">

resgatados.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">We must
have in mind there are many good things in the world and many good feelings and
attitudes, but they don't come from God, are not originated in God. They are
originated in the world. Love may be a noble and very beautiful feeling, but if
it doesn't come from God is as useless and condemnable as hate, free sex (out
of marriage), murder. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">When we
talk about the love to the world we mean a selfish love, self-gratifying, not
taking God or other people on account. It's a love that only thinks about itself
and it's completely separated from God's love and will. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">The world
comes with elements to try to part us from God through forbidden desires dressed
in an appearance of nobility with the appeal of the flesh, eyes or even pride.
When we are armed with the Word, in a spirit of worship, believing on what God
has done for us, in an attitude of a servant, generosity, simplicity, seeking
to bear fruits in the Spirit we are
going to be able to do God's will, be filled with God's love and reach eternal
life. </span><span lang="PT-BR" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">May

<br />
Today we are going to deal with each one of the elements of the world: the lust of flesh, the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life.<br />
<br />
Eve saw that the fruit of the tree was "good for food". Based on that how would you define the lust of the flesh? <br />
<br />
Eve saw that the fruit of the tree was "pleasing to the eye". Based on that how would you define the lust of the eyes?<br />
<br />
Eve saw that the tree was "desirable for gaining wisdom". How this can help you to define the boastful pride of life?<br />
<br />
Application:<br />
<br />
1- The lust of the flesh is an intense and unstoppable desire for the things of the flesh (Galatians 5:19-21). It most often happens among the young people.<br />
<br />
2- The lust of the eyes is an intense and unstoppable desire for the things we see: to covet. A more modern world would be "materialism". It most often happens among the middle-age people.<br />
<br />
3- The boastful pride of life is a pride based on things such as: age, experience, family line, money, status, power, past accomplishments, etc. It most often happens among old people.<br />
<br />
4- Pray, asking God to show you if any of these elements are influencind or dominating your life.Olhos Orientaishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12159312965672536025noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-136612824794048599.post-82486187904250890182014-05-08T08:28:00.000+08:002014-05-08T08:31:20.510+08:00Semana 10 – Devocional 3 - Comendo Novamente da Árvore do Conhecimento do Bem e do Mal – Definindo os Elementos do Mundo Quarta-feira (07/05/2014) – Leia 1 João 2:15-17; Gênesis 3:1-6<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Aplicação:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Olhos Orientaishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12159312965672536025noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-136612824794048599.post-37368679959709667372014-05-06T16:57:00.002+08:002014-05-06T19:40:03.833+08:00Week 10 - Devotional 2 – Eating Again from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil – Loving the World – Consequences to Loving the World<div class="MsoNormal">

<br />
What did Peter Say to Jesus when He went to wash his feet?<br />
<br />
What was Jesus’ reply?<br />
<br />
What was Peter’s reaction?<br />
<br />
What did Jesus say it would happen if He didn’t wash Peter’s feet?<br />
<br />
Normally the owner of the house should send a servant to wash the feet of his guests, but this didn’t happened. The roads from that time were all made of dirty; the way of transport was by animals (imagine all the animal’s feces on the streets); the shoes used at that time were sandals; the trips were all very long. At the end of any trip the feet of the travelers would be very dirty and smelly. So it was necessary that the feet were washed when they arrived at the place of anyone. It was an act of hospitality.<br />
<br />
But here, at this place, there were no servants to wash the guest’s feet. The disciples didn’t want to do it so that they didn’t lower to the position of a servant. So Jesus gets up and teaches a lesson on humility and service. The disciples react in shock. Peter doesn’t accept. But, then, Jesus shows that to understand the lesson one has to participate on it, otherwise you have no part in comprehending the depth of what‘s been taught. If Peter doesn’t accept Jesus humbling himself now, how will he be served by Jesus when He is humiliated at the cross?<br />
<br />
Read Mark 10:45. It is through this act of humility and service that we can have fellowship, have our minds transformed and learn to humble ourselves and to serve. The feet represent our testimony, the act of evangelize, the Christian walk (Isaiah 52:7; Ephesians 6:15). Our testimony, our Christian walk, need a constant purifying by the Word of God (Ephesians 5:26; John 15:3). Jesus humbled himself at the cross so that we can humble ourselves, today by serving one another.<br />

<br />
<br />
O que Jesus respondeu?<br />
<br />
Qual foi a reação de Pedro?<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Leia Marcos 10:45.

<br />
Describe the actions of Jesus one by one in the sequence they happen.<br />
<br />
What did Jesus know?<br />
<br />
How did what Jesus knew help Him to serve better?<br />
<br />
For me this is a very powerful vision of Jesus. You can’t see any insecurity in Him at the moment when He gets up and performs that servant activity. Why? The answer is found on verse 3: The identity of Jesus. It’s the fact of knowing who He is, that He owns an authority given by the Father, that His origin is in God and that His destiny is in God who ables Him to leave His place and execute the work of a servant.<br />
<br />
We can see in Jesus the humbleness aspect well founded by the security of His identity in God. What about your identity? Where is it based? Who are you? What are the values that lead your life?<br />
<br />
Read Ephesians 1:3-14 to find what God did for you. Now read it again replacing the pronouns we, us for I, me. Seek to find where you are positioned and what happened to you because of that. Why is our identity so important? Because who I am defines how I serve.<br />

Quarta-feira (30/04/2014) – Leia João 13:3-5<br />
<br />
<br />
O que Jesus sabia?<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">This is some
of Jesus’ last moments. He already knows His destiny and His remaining time. In
these last instances He starts to do what He knows how to do well: to love. How
does He show this love? Serving. He already knew He was going to be betrayed
and for whom. But in spite of that, He loved (including the betrayer). He loved
His own in the world, meaning His disciples, and even those who are not. You
are included as being one of them. He loves you and shows the full extent of
His love by serving us. He serves us so that we can learn how to love those
around us. Even when the end is coming near, Jesus doesn’t assume a fatalistic
or depressive attitude. By the contrary, He tries to use His time in a
productive way: serving.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

“leitourgia” is a Word originally used for citizens serving in public roles on

the New Testament it is used for the priestly ministry as well as for
altruistic donations. Another word used
as a translation for “leitourgia” is ministry. So, a minister must be a
servant. Who ministers over other lives must be a servant. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

momentos.

No Novo Testamento ela é
usada tanto para o ministério sacerdotal quanto para doação altruísta. Outra

<br /></div>
<div class="MsoBodyText3" style="mso-pagination: none; text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 118%;">The Jews
were celebrating the Passover which was the feast to commemorate when the
people of Israel left Egypt. This feast would go for the whole night. The feast
of the Unleavened Bread started on the
day of the Passover and remained for seven days. During this week the people
wouldn’t use or eat yeast, representing that the people had no time to let the
bread be raised when they were leaving Egypt. Jesus wanted to celebrate the
Passover as well and chose Peter and John to prepare it. Where were they going
to prepare it? Jesus gave the sign. The
sign would be a man carrying a jar of water. They should prepare the supper in
the house where this man entered that, according to tradition, was the house of
John Mark, the writer of the second Gospel.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<br /></div>
<div class="MsoBodyText3" style="mso-pagination: none; text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 118%;">How is
this text relevant for us? Only because of Jesus’ omniscience, giving every
detail about what was going to happen before it happened? No. The importance is
that the given sign was a man carrying a jar of water. This was a difficult
sign to let pass unnoticed because in the Jewish culture it was the role of
women to draw water from the wells or to carry jars of water. The fact of a man be doing the work of a
woman would be easy to recognize. Why would a man be doing this kind of
service? This may show the heart of a
servant, of someone who saw a need and acted to supply it. Do you want Jesus to
came to have a banquet in your life, celebrating you leaving the life of sin
behind? The sign is a heart of a
servant. God doesn’t call lazy people to do His work. He seeks for servants. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
