Week 10 - Devotional 3 – Eating Again from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil – Defining the Elements of the World

Wednesday (07/05/2014) – Read 1 John 2:15-17; Genesis 3:1-6

Today we are going to deal with each one of the elements of the world: the lust of flesh, the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life.

Eve saw that the fruit of the tree was "good for food". Based on that how would you define the lust of the flesh?

Eve saw that the fruit of the tree was "pleasing to the eye". Based on that how would you define the lust of the eyes?

Eve saw that the tree was "desirable for gaining wisdom". How this can help you to define the boastful pride of life?

Application:

1- The lust of the flesh is an intense and unstoppable desire for the things of the flesh (Galatians 5:19-21). It most often happens among the young people.

2- The lust of the eyes is an intense and unstoppable desire for the things we see: to covet. A more modern world would be "materialism". It most often happens among the middle-age people.

3- The boastful pride of life is a pride based on things such as: age, experience, family line, money, status, power, past accomplishments, etc. It most often happens among old people.

4- Pray, asking God to show you if any of these elements are influencind or dominating your life.
