03/04/2014 – Thursday – Read Matthew 6:13
1 – Read James 1:13-15. According to this passage does God tempt anyone? Where does temptation start? What is the process started by temptation? So, all temptation starts in our flesh, through our lust (or evil desires). We know that the flesh has little to offer to us spiritually – it “profits nothing” (John 6:63), and it is very weak, very susceptible to sin. (Read Romans 6:19). But Jesus did come in flesh and live without sin (John 1:14), and we are told to clothe ourselves in Him and “make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts” (Romans 13:14). If we walk by the Spirit – being led and prompted by Him – we will be far less likely to “carry out the desire of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16).
2 – Read Galatians 5:13. As an antidote to serving our own flesh, what should we do?
3 – Read 1 Peter 4:1,2. For what purpose should we “arm” ourselves to counteract the force of flesh in our lives?
