Week 5 – Devotional 5 - Jesus Teaches About Prayer – Being Delivered From Evil (Who Is in Control?)

04/04/2014 – Friday – Read Matthew 6:13

1 – To be delivered from evil is to not let evil have dominion over our lives. By evil we can understand two things: the devil or our evil nature (a disposition to do evil). As we already somehow covered the second one yesterday on the temptation/flesh matter, we will here refer to the devil-evil. And for us not to fall under his strength God already provided resources for us to resist and counterattack those powers trying to assault us. What are those resources?

 a)- the Name of Jesus – Psalm 20:7; 118:10-12; Acts 4:10; James 5:14-15; Acts 16:18; 2:22; Mark 9:39; Mark 16:17,18; John 15:16; Proverbs 18:10.

 b)- the Word of God – Matthew 4:1-11; John 17:17; John 8:31,32; Proverbs 30:5.

 c)- the Fear of the Lord – Psalm 111:10; Proverbs 16:6; 8:13; 14:26,27; 19:23.

 d)- Praise and Worship – Psalm 149:6-9; 2 Chronicles 20:12, 17-19, 21,22; Exodus 15:2; Acts 16:25,26

 e)- to Resist the devil - 1 Peter 5:8,9; James 4:7.

f)- the Armor of God – Ephesians 6:10-17 (truth, justice, repentance, faith, salvation, Word of God, prayer, praying in the Spirit).

2 – We pray to God because the Kingdom, the power and the glory belong to God-Father forever, i.e., He is in control of everything. Because of that we can be certain He is going to supply, He already forgave, and will able us to forgive, He will strength us against all temptation and protect us of all the attack from Hell. All power is His and all things are subject to Him. Amen (so be it).
